The transformations in Thomas Mann's political thinking
The Thomas Mann Archive and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) of the University of St.Gallen invite you to a lecture on: Reflections of a Nonpolitical Man and On the German Republic.
As part of the international conference "The Political Thought of Thomas Mann", philosopher Professor external page Dr. Dieter Thomä from the University of St.Gallen discusses the changes in Mann’s political though. Thomä illustrates how Thomas Mann's reflections on masculinity influenced his political views and compares the latter with those of his contemporaries Hans Kelsen, Alfred Baeumler and Hans Blüher. Dieter Thomä argues for reading Mann's "eccentric account" of democracy against the grain.
The event will take place on Thursday, 01 June 2023, at 17.30 at ETH Zurich Zentrum Campus, Rämistrasse 101, 8092 Zurich, HG E 42.
The lecture will be held in English and is open to the public, followed by an apéro.
