2023 annual report of the Thomas Mann Archive

In 2023, the Thomas Mann Archive opened its new permanent exhibition in the ETH main building. Find out more in the new annual report.

The newly designed permanent exhibition with Thomas Mann’s famous desk was opened in 2023 with a speech by the writer Dana Grigorcea. Around 20,000 people visited the exhibition in its first year. Another special event highlight was the organisation of the 7th Thomas Mann Lecture with literary scholar Veronika Fuechtner.

Via its own online database, the Thomas Mann Archive made further manuscripts freely accessible and continued its digitisation activities. The archive was also able to expand its collection through significant new acquisitions and donations.

Outlook

The Thomas Mann Archive team is continuously working on new digital tools for researchers and the public. The two anniversary years of 2024 (100 years of ‘The Magic Mountain’) and 2025 (150th birthday of Thomas Mann) are also at the centre of attention.
