Exhibition at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg

With exhibits from the Thomas Mann Archives, the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg is showing the exhibition "Europa auf Kur: Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Thomas Mann und der Mythos Davos" from 18 February to 3 October 2021.

Within a few decades, Davos transformed itself from a mountain village into a prestigious health resort, a popular winter sports resort, a meeting place for the European scientific and cultural scene, and became the scene of futile peace efforts between the two world wars. With his novel "Der Zauberberg", Thomas Mann set Davos the literary monument par excellence.

The Thomas Mann Archives is participating in the exhibition with exceptionally valuable loans: including 4 diaries, 4 notebooks, two volumes from Thomas Mann's private library and a cigarette box from the author's possession. The exhibition will initially be opened virtually.
